The soundtrack single Sky and Sand, recorded with his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner, spent 129 weeks on the German singles chart and sold over 200,000 copies, earning platinum certification. His 2015 album 7 reached number one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In October 2025 he released his ninth studio album, The Essence, which entered the top five in Germany, Austria and Belgium. The record includes a collaboration with Stromae on the track Que ce soit clair, which charted in France and Belgium. Unlike most DJs, Kalkbrenner performs his own productions live, deconstructing and rebuilding tracks in real time on stage. At Luxexpo Open Air in Luxembourg on 17 July 2026 he drew a crowd of 7,000 for one of his few exclusive solo shows this summer.
