The SonneMondSterne Festival is one of the biggest electro open-air festivals in Europe. On four stages and the unique “Freshboat”, the biggest DJ and electro stars heat up the 40,000 festival guests.

The SMS took place for the first time in 1997 and since then the open-air festival has been held annually on the second weekend in August in Thuringia at the Bleilochtalsperre dam near Saalburg-Ebbersdorf. While there were 2500 visitors at the beginning, the number of visitors has risen steadily over the years. In 2011, for example, 35,000 people came to the festival. When the SMS celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2016, it was sold out in no time at all.
The festival site consists of a main stage, a main tent, a second stage, four circus tents and a party boat. Adjacent to the festival are several hectares of camping grounds, washing and shower facilities as well as shopping and catering options.
